Guide 04: Antenna Polarization — The 90-Degree Orthogonal Alignment Secret
Why positioning one antenna vertically and one horizontally maximizes client throughput.

Most users align all router antennas straight up like soldier pins. This creates single-axis vertical polarization, severely limiting reception when receiving devices (smartphones, tablets) are held horizontally or tilted during usage.
Matching Transmit and Receive Polarizations
Radio waves possess a physical polarization angle. When a vertical router antenna transmits to a mobile phone that is rotated horizontally into landscape mode for gaming or video, polarization mismatch loss can bleed 10 to 20 dB of signal power.
- The L-Configuration: If your router has two antennas, position one vertically (90 degrees) and one horizontally (180 degrees flat).
- Three or Four Antennas: Set two antennas vertically, one at a 45-degree angle, and one completely horizontal. This creates an omnidirectional spatial diversity field for MIMO transceivers.
