Guide 11: Channel Width Tuning — Finding the Sweet Spot Between Speed and Interference
Configuring 20MHz for 2.4GHz stability and 80MHz/160MHz for 5GHz maximum throughput.

Channel width determines the size of the digital pipe your Wi-Fi signals use. Wider channels allow higher data transfer rates, but also capture significantly more environmental noise.
20 MHz vs 40 MHz vs 80 MHz
- 2.4 GHz Band: ALWAYS lock channel width to 20 MHz. Setting it to 40 MHz consumes 80% of the entire 2.4GHz spectrum, causing frequent disconnects and high packet loss from neighboring routers.
- 5 GHz Band: Set to 80 MHz for the perfect balance of gigabit speed and broad channel availability. Only enable 160 MHz if you live in a rural or detached home free of DFS radar interference.
